Promoting sport in England

An encyclopaedia of simple-to-use information on how to promote sport and active recreation to the public has been unveiled by Sport England.

As well as a free library of community sport images, the Promoting Sport Toolkit - which can be accessed at www.sportengland.org/promotingsport - contains information on everything from how to promote sport to different age groups to how to run events and examples of how other sports clubs and organisations have fulfilled their potential.

Aimed at County Sports Partnerships (CSPs), Community Sports Networks (CSNs) and sports clubs, the Toolkit also contains a calendar of sporting events, a discussion forum and links for those seeking more information.

The Toolkit's 'How to ...' guides draw on examples of how other sports clubs and organisations from across the country have promoted themselves. It provides information on how to work with the media, even suggesting a press release template. It also gives details on how to encourage people to volunteer and how to use promotional techniques, such as designing leaflets and adverts.

Additionally, sports clubs will be able to log onto the site to find examples of how their counterparts from other regions have promoted themselves, whether it be a horse riding centre in Newcastle or a fitness centre in Norfolk.
